■The first half

Toei-Oedo line Kachidoki Station
This month's feature introduces Tsukishima and Tsukuda areas, starting from Kachidoki Station of the Toei-Oedo line.

Kachidoki Bridge
Going straight from the station, you will find Kachidoki Bridge, which is put up on the lowest reaches of Sumida River.

Nishi-Nakadori shopping center
Nishi-Nakadori shopping center is called "Monja Street," which holds more than 30 unique monja restaurants.

Yoshimi-ya
After entering the street, you may find Yoshimi-ya right a way. Yoshimi-ya is the first monja restaurant in Tsukishima, founded in 1954. They recommend "Tokusei-monja."

Okame Hyottoko-ten
This is another monja restaurant called "Okame Hyottoko-ten," which has been opened for four years. You can put your baggage in the bench so that your bags are safe from greasy smell. These are "Wafu monja" and "Jan monja"

Tsukishima Kannon
Tsukishima Kannon is located on the first floor of Tsukishima SAN GRANDPA. It is believed to help finding something lost, and healing illnesses.

Elevator 〜 Tsukishima hot spring
On the second floor, there is Tsukishima hot spring. The soft water gives your skin nice moisture. This hot spring has been very popular for 100 years.

I-ro-ha honten
On the same floor, you will find I-ro-ha honten, the second oldest monja restaurant in Tsukishima. This restaurant proudly serves monjas with their original sauce. "Mentai-mochi monja," and "Mix monja" are very popular.

Back street 〜 Nishiki
Another popular monja restaurant is located on the back street that parallels Monja Street. Nishiki Ichi-goten became well known for adding rice cake end spicy cod roe in monja. This green monja is "Osama-no-brunch special." They bring the ingredients separately for a better flavor of monja.

The second half

Street 〜 Tsukuda-namiyoke-inari shrine and Chikara-ishi
You may keep going back on the Monja Street and you will be in Tsukuda area. This is Tsukuda-namiyoke-inari shrine. It is said that young fishermen competed their strengths with the stones, called Chikara-ishi.

Bridge 〜 Marukyu
After crossing the Tsukuda-kohashi, you will find Marukyu. Marukyu sells tsukudani, preserved food boiled down in soy sauce. The shop is founded in 1859. A set of six different tsukudani is suitable for souvenir from Tsukuda.

Path 〜 Sumiyoshi shrine 〜 Tsukuda-kohashi
You will see Sumiyoshi shrine. In the Edo era, fishermen who lived in Tsukuda village in Osaka were summoned to Edo by the shogunate. They built Sumiyoshi shrine here by dividing the spirit from Sumiyoshi shrine in Osaka.

Futaba-ya
This is Futaba-ya, a shop for Japanese sweets, founded in 1868. They especially cook the sweet beans with utmost care. "Kurimushi-Yokan" is the most popular sweet that is wrapped in real bamboo skins.

Hisago-ya Abe
Hisago-ya Abe sells fried livers. The second owner has been frying livers for 24 years. The fried livers are good for both snacks and side dishes.

Takasago butcher shop
Takasago butcher shop has fine quality meet, such as Yonezawa beef. They are also well known for roast pork. They boil pork with their original special sauce that gives pork an extra tenderness.

Toei-Oedo line Tsukishima Station
Finally, you will get to Toei-Oedo line Tsukishima Station. This month's feature introduced a walk in Tsukishima and Tsukuda areas. There are many attractions in these areas. You may enjoy finding your own interests, too.
